On 31st October 2013, eight members of Aldershot RA went down to Chandlers’ Ford for the annual RA-FA event. Ian Blanchard, Senior National Game Referee Manager at the FA, gave a thought-provoking presentation on ‘Achieving your Potential’, all of the ways in which we can strive to achieve our individual potential and the commitment and enthusiasm it takes to do just that. The HFA Referee Youth Council updated all those in attendance with the projects they are working on during the coming season and their plans on helping young referees under the age of 25 to ‘achieve their potential’.

Lee Probert RA-FA

After the break, Lee Probert (FIFA & Select Group referee) spoke about his achievements and his history in making the top. Lee also spoke about the demands of a modern day referee – both in terms of the training and preparation (mental and physical) but also the expectations of being an ‘ambassador of the game’. Lee was extremely open and honest about his experiences at the top when asked questions from the floor, and showed that you cannot stop wanting to ‘achieve your potential’.

An excellent evening was had by all, and thanks goes to Hampshire FA for organising such a great event and to Ian Blanchard and Lee Probert for giving up their time.
