Young Referees’ Development Day

On the 18th August there will be a Young Referee Development Day run by Hampshire FA for youth referees (14-25 y/o). Building on from the last event which was a great success this will be even better. Essentially the day will be fun, but will also develop you as a referee massively. Crucially, this day will cost you nothing. The event itself is free and the travel on the ferry can be claimed back. If you would like to come please let me know by return email, so I can sort out travel and can you also make sure you click attend on this link: http://eventspace.thefa.com/hampshirefa/YRDD0814...

August Practical Session – ‘The Art of Assisting’

Thursday night saw over a third of Aldershot RA’s members brace the warm summer evening over at the Polo Fields in Aldershot to learn about the ‘Art of Assisting’ from Steve Scott, our resident trainer. After a short warm-up, we were taken through the basics of flagging and signalling for offences, something that only comes as second nature after seasons of practice. Remembering to keep the flag facing the field of play and in sight of the referee at all times is a key part of the communication between the team – so that ‘leading’ signals for throws can be seen. As we found out, moving with the flag and ensuring it was in the correct hand before signalling takes a little bit of concentration! The group then split into two teams to participate in some light-hearted movement races, to get the brain switched on and the legs moving, and Steve showed how this could be adapted for some great individual...

Aldershot RA features in the RA Good Practice Guide!

The RA-FA Youth Council unveiled a new document at the RA Conference in July - the RA Good Practice Guide. The guide was issued to all in attendance at the RA Conference, giving examples of some of the excellent work which exists in many different local RAs around the country. We were very proud to appear in the Guide for our work on Development Nights - something we feel is an excellent way of taking 'development' into the new era of refereeing, and we hope our members agree. We hope to run three further Development Nights as part of our mission for the upcoming season, focusing on three different levels of football. We also recognise some of the other excellent ideas provided for in the Guide, and we have already started implementing some of these examples to improve Aldershot RA for the best. To read a copy of the Guide, and see what the RA-FA Youth Council have to say on our Development Nights (and the works...
